Description
The side plate is the all-rounder for everything that isn't the main course: cake, starters, bread or canapés at a standing reception. At birthdays, christenings and company celebrations with coffee and cake, it is in use practically non-stop. At the buffet it proves its worth for desserts, so guests don't have to pile sweet and savoury onto the same plate.
Hiring side plates instead of buying paper ones saves disposable waste and looks better on any table. If cake and dessert are served separately, allow one extra plate per guest. For main courses, reach for the Large Plate; for soups and salads, the Bowl. At a standing reception, canapés go round on the Serving Tray and guests put them on their side plate.
